Our map draws barely any zones on the Neumarkt – but as a pedestrian area the 7 a.m.–8 p.m. window is likely to apply.

The Neumarkt, with the rebuilt Frauenkirche, is Dresden’s most visited square. According to our map data the zone picture here is unusually clear: the nearest entry, a playground, is about 289 metres away, so its 100-metre radius does not reach the square. What matters instead is the pedestrian-area designation – there the ban under § 5(2) no. 5 KCanG applies between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. During the day the square is busy with tour groups throughout.

Prager Straße is a pedestrian zone – and our map draws four playgrounds and several sports areas nearby on top.

Prager Straße links the central station with the old town and is Dresden’s main shopping pedestrian zone. Where a pedestrian zone is designated, the ban under § 5(2) no. 5 KCanG applies daily between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Independently of that, our map draws four playgrounds, three sports areas and two daycare centres within 300 metres – the nearest playground about 170 metres away. Their 100-metre zones apply around the clock, whereas the time window does not.

Großer Garten

In the Großer Garten our map draws just a single entry within 300 metres – the area is unusually clear.

At close to two square kilometres, the Großer Garten is Dresden’s largest park, with its palais, the miniature railway and long avenues. Parks are not banned across the board under the KCanG, and according to our map data the middle of this park really is exceptionally zone-poor: within 300 metres there is only one entry, a sports area by the toboggan hill at about 220 metres. The edges are different, as are the surroundings of the zoo, the miniature railway and the playgrounds. With an area this size, checking your exact location is worthwhile.

Elbe meadows & Neustadt bank

The Neustadt bank is denser than the open meadow suggests: according to our map data there are eight daycare centres within 300 metres.

The Elbe meadows between the Augustusbrücke and the Albertbrücke are Dresden’s summer gathering place, with a view of the old-town silhouette. That open impression is misleading: according to our map data, within 300 metres of the extract chosen here there are eight daycare centres, a secondary school with its schoolyard, two sports areas and two playgrounds – the nearest entries from about 140 metres. Their 100-metre radii reach onto the meadows from the Neustadt side. Further downstream, away from the housing, more open stretches appear.

Prager Straße is one of the well-known pedestrian areas in Dresden. Where a pedestrian zone is designated, the ban under § 5(2) no. 5 KCanG applies daily between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. – in the evening and at night consumption is generally allowed there, unless another no-consumption zone applies, such as a school or daycare within sight. Whether an individual stretch is actually designated a pedestrian zone can vary; the signage on the ground is what binds.

How many no-consumption zones does Dresden have?
